Chelsea vs West Brom odds 5/1 Lampard can strike first

Chelsea looks set to run riot in their tea-time clash with West Brom (5.30pm KO, Live on ESPN) but at a top priced 3/10 it’s the first goalscorer market where we will be looking for some value.

No doubt there will be plenty of big hitters that will be prepared to get stuck in at the long odds-on with Betfred, Paddy Power and totesport, but for the normal punter 3/10 makes little appeal other than to put the Blues as bankers in Saturday accas.

Chelsea hammered West Brom 6-0 on the opening day of the season, and a repeat of that scoreline is not entirely out of the question if they are on-song.

You can get a top priced 66/1 about history repeating itself, but there is possible better value to be had in the first goalscorer market.

Frank Lampard scored in 8 of his 18 home games for club and country last season, and is often on the scoresheet when Chelsea run riot.

He can be backed at a general price of 5/1 to net the opener, and is worth an each-way wager at that price with bookmakers paying place trems of 1/3 the odds.

Recommended bet: 3pts each-way Lampard to score first (5/1 generally available)
