Cheltenham Festival (2.40pm – Tues March 12): 20/1 White Star Line fancied to sink rivals

Dessie Hughes has got White Star Line in this off a handy mark and he looks cracking each-way value at the 20/1 on offer.

The gelding is now 3lb lower than when runner-up to Hunt Ball in last year’s Pulteney Land Novies’Handicap Chase where he stayed on well to be beaten 8 lengths without ever threatening to get to the easy winner.

Since then he has runner some solid races without getting his head in front, and after catching the eye when staying on late to finish a remote third to Our Father here two starts signalled that he was approahcing his peak with an excellent second behind Home Farm at Fairyhouse last time up.

The nine-year-old stayed on well that day to be beaten 5 lengths without being unduly subjected to a hard race and looks to have been brought along steadily with this race in mind.

The way he has been campaigned suggests that connections have been keen to protect his handicap mark, and they certainly seem to have done the job well.

He sneaks into this off what looks a very handy weight of 10st 5lb, and with conditions ideal, solid form to his name over course and distance and Bryan Cooper in the saddle a massive run looks on the cards.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way White Star Line (20/1 Betfred – BOG)
