Cheltenham Wednesday tips: Rhinestone a Champion Bumper gem

Rhinestone looks worth a wager in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper that brings proceedings to a close on day two of the Cheltenham Festival (5.30).

Joseph O’Brien’s five-year-old shaped with plenty of pormise when runner-up on debut at Punchestown before running out an easy 19 lengths winner of a 10-runner contest at Thurles on heavy ground.

He was then given a two month break before finding only Blackbow only 1 1/2 lengths too goof in a Grade 2 at Leopardstown.

After being held-up in touch travelling well, Rhinestone’s rider got caught napping a bit when the winner kicked for home entering the straight.

He allowed Blackbow first run before sticking to the task well despite never quite being able to land a blow.

Given how the race panned out I thought it was a cracking effort and one which suggested there was plenty more to come.

The form also looks strong as the pair poulled 15 lengths clear of a field packed with plenty of previosu winners.

That run should also have put Rhinestone spot on for this and Barry Geraghty now takes over on the saddle.

I think he has every chance of turningh the tables with Blackbow, who heads the market for this at around 5/1, so at three points bigger he has to be the bet.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Rhinstone (8/1 bet365 – BOG, 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4)
