Chicago can make it a Grey day for bookies

Chicago Grey is back down to his last winning mark and makes plenty of appeal at 12/1 in the 3.40 at Cheltenham today.

Gordon Elliott’s charge is a smart staying chaser who’s last success came at the Festival here in 2011 when he landed the National Hunt Chase by 4 1/2 lengths from Beshabar off today’s mark of 147.

The nine-year-old was in process of running a huge race in this contest last season off 150 when making stealthy headway from the rear and within 3 lengths of the eventually winner balthazar king when blundering and unseating his rider at the second last.

Given his run-style you would have to think that he would have gone very close to winning had he stood on his feet and he now meets the winner on 8lb better terms.

That suggests that he should be able to gain his revenge on that rival, and he went on to put in a couple od decent efforts in graded company before being brought down in the Grand National when last seen in action.

Other pluses are that he has course and distance winning form to his name and a good record when running fresh.

It could well be that first time up is the time to catch him, and his handler is sure to have him primed for this.

There are also plenty of front runners in the race which should see him get the strong gallop he needs to be seen at his best, and if he is within striking distance rounding the home bend nothing will be finishing better.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Chicago Grey (12/1 sporingbet)
