Course specialist Magic City runs of his last winning mark in the Betfred Mile at Goodwood today (3.05)and makes plenty of appeal at 11/1.
Richard Hannon’s gelding has won three of his five starts over course and distance, with the last of coming off his current mark of 97 last August where he showed a smart turn of foot to win going away by a length.
The five-year-old was was put up to a mark of 102 as a result of that cosy success, and ran well of that mark when ninth of 17 to Heaven’s Guest at Ascot where he was beaten just 4 lengths.
Magic City was not at his best in his first three starts this season, but his mark fell as a result and he bounced back to form last time out when an excellent length second to The Rectifier over a mile at Salisbury off 93.
Although now 4lb higher, he is on the same mark as when last successful and well-treated on the pick of his form.
Another plus is that he came good at this time last year, landing a hat-trick in July/August, and looks to be coming back to his best at exactly the right time for this.
Magic City also has the services of Richard Hughes in the saddle and a good draw in stall 8, and everything looks in place for a huge run.
