Claret Cloak a 10/1 cracker

Claret Cloak looks on a fair mark for his handicap debut in the 2.35 at  Ascot and at 10/1 is strongly fancied to land the spoils.

Emma Lavelle’s gelding had some decent form in bumpers and looked a smart hurdler in the making when scoring on his last two starts at Sandown and Newbury.

He slammed a small field with consummate ease in the former, and was value for far more than the winning margin when only having to be driven out to beat North Cape by 2 1/2 lengths in the latter in which War Singer finished fourth.

The five-year-old beat War Singer by 11 1/4 lengths, and now meets him on just 3lb worse terms.

There is absolute no reason why David Pipe’s charge should turn around the form, and the selection has by far the most progressive profile of the pair.

The son of Vinnie Roe looks the type who has plenty more to offer and is expected to prove far better than his opening mark of 133.

There are dangers aplenty in what is a hot contest, but I think Claret cloak has a real touch of class and is one firmly to keep on the right side of this season.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Claret Cloak (10/1 Stan James – BOG)
