Class-dropping Barkston Ash worth a bet at 20s

Barkston Ash has been given a chance by the handicapper and looks worth siding with at 20/1 in the 3.00 at Haydock today now eased in grade.

Eric Alston’s charge was last successful in a class 3 at Thirsk 15 months ago when easily beating Robot Boy by 3 1/4 lengths off a mark of 89.

The seven-year-old wenmt on to finish in the frame on two occasions off 97, and has also posted some solid efforts this season.

They include a 2 lenngth second to the very useful Out Do in a class 2 contest at Pontefract off 88, a solid 1 length fourth of 12 at Thirsk and a neck second of 10 to Mississippi at Ripon five starts back in a class 3 affair.

Although Barkston Ash has failed to sprakle in his last four runs, that has resulted in the assessor cutting him some slack and he is now able to race in off 85.

That is 4lb lower than when last successful and gives him a big shout at the weights on the pick of his form if the refitting of the blinkers can spark him back to life.

He also drops down into class 4 company for the first time in over 5 years, and that makes him look well worth an each-way wager at the odds on offer

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Barkston Ash (20/1 bet365, BetVictor – BOG)
