Class-dropping The Irish Rover has plenty going for him at Donny

The Irish Rover looks a solid each-way bet at 5/1 in the 3.35 at Doncaster today now eased in grade.

Aidan O’Brien’s colt has won only one of his six starts but has posted some really solid efforts in defeat in group company.

They include a third to Advertise in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh where after racing prominently throughout in the five-runner field he kept on well for pressure to be beaten just a length.

It was a career-best effort and The Irish Rover has since been far from disgraced when a 3 1/4 length fourth of nine to Emaraaty Ana in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York.

Those efforts read extremely well in the contest of this lower grade sales’ race and he also now gets fitted with the blinkers for the first time.

He looks the type that will benefit from the headgear and with some bookmakers paying five places it will be disappointing if he does not make the frame at the very least. On form he has every chnace of landing the spoils under Ryan Moore.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way The Irish Rover (5/1 Paddy Power – BOG, 1/5 odds five places)
