Communicator a 16/1 November Handicap nugget

Communicator looks to have been laid out for today’s Betfred November Handicap at Doncaster (3.35) and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 16/1.

Andrew Balding’s charge was better than ever last year, winning a handicap at Chester by a runaway 9 lengths off a mark of 84 before running a stormer at the same track to be beaten a neck by Tominator off 93.

He then put in a cracking effort in this contest 12 months ago when finishing second of 23 to Art Scholar off 94.

The gelding made headway from mid-divsion to lead inside the final furlong before being unable to quicken when headed and keeping on at the once pace to be beaten just 3/4 of a length.

He finished 11 lengths in front of one of today’s leading fancies  Nicholascopernicus who came home in 13th and now meets that rival on 7lb better terms.

That suggests he should have little difficulty confirming the form with that rival, yet he can be backed at 4pts higher and that makes no sense to me.

It’s true that the selection hasn’t been at his best in four runs this year, but his mark has fallen as a result and he has clearly been lightly campaigned and kept fresh this race in mind.

He now gets into the race off 91 – 3lb lower than when chasing home Art Scholar in it last year – and that gives him major claims at the weights.

The five-year-old has also ran well to be placed on the two occasions he has run on soft/heavy ground, and everything suggests a huge run is on the cards.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Communicator (16/1 bet365, Boylsports – BOG, 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4,5)
