Course and distance winner Filun looks overpriced at 12/1 in the 3.30 at Brighton after shaping better than his finishing position suggests on his recent comeback run.
Tony Middleton’s gelding was in terrific form in the early part of last season, winning three times including twice her over today’s trip.
His first win came here off a mark of 48 and after following up at Linfield off 56 he defied another 6lb rise with consummate ease when slamming Celestial Girl by 3 1/2 lengths when returned to this venue.
The gelding then went on to be placed off marks of 71 and 72 before disappointing on his final start at Epsom at the end of August.
The son of Invincible Spirit understandably looked badly in need of the outing when making his belated comeback run at Windsor last month, but he travelled really sweetly for much of the journey before weakening badly approaching the last.
Although eventually beaten a long way in a race won by Timocracy he was not knocked about once it was clear he would not be winning and he is sure to strip much fitter this afternoon.
The handicapper has also dropped him a couple of pounds to a mark of 70, and given that he was placed off higher last season there is every chance of him being able to take advantage now returned to his favourite stomping ground.
To me he looks to have plenty going for him at a track where course form is a major plus, and at the odds on offer he looks cracking each-way value.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Filun (12/1 Paddy Power – BOG)
