Don’t Stare appeals at 7s on handicap debut

Don’t Stare makes his eagerly awaited handicap debut in the 4.40 at Kempton today and is strongly fancied at 7/1 to make it a winning one.

James Fanshawe’s shaped with bags of promise on his racecourse debut last season when third of 14 to Stableford at Yarmouth ins  arace which has thrown up plenty of subsequent winners.

He then ran an excellent race to finish runner-up to Noble Protector over this course and distance, and the winner has gone on to score since and finish a good second in a Goodwood handicap off a mark of 85.

The selection then opened his account in good style when landing a 14-runner maiden over course and distance with far more in hand than the head margin suggests.

The son of Zamindar made headway from mid-division to take up the running a furlong from home and found plenty when pressed inside the last to beat Ennbobled Friend.

The runner-up has gone on to score since, as has Legends who was beaten 4 3/4 lengtsh into third and won a handicap at Wolverhampton by 11 lengths.

That gives the form a pretty solid look, and Don’t Stare still looked far from the finished article that day.

He looks the type who will do well in handicaps as a four-year-old and has plenty more to offer, and his opening mark of 84 does not look overly harsh in my book.

His handler also boasts and near 20% strike rate with his runners at the track, and has a near 26% strike rate in the last 12 months when putting up Shane Kelly in the saddle.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Dont Stare (7/1 BetVictor, Boylesports – BOG)
