Becausewecan is potentially thrown-in at the weights in the 3.20 at Catterick today and is strongly fancied at 6/1 to take advantage and score an overdue success.
The gelding won three times in 2011 when trained by Mark Johnston, with the last of those successes come in a 1m 6f class 3 contest at Ffos Las off a mark of 86.
He subsequently drwe a black last year, but did out uop a solid effort on his reappearance in the class 2 2m 4f Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting when seventh of 20 to Simenon off a mark of 92.
The seven-year-old, who is now in the care of Brian Ellison, now gets into this class 5 contest off a mark of just 65, and that makes him thrown-in on his old form given that he is 21lb below his last winning mark.
He is also dropped marked in class on just his second start for his new handler having competed in the Irish Cesrewitch at the Curragh last time out on his first run for 352 days.
Although well beaten in that 30-runenr contest he was sent off at just 16/1 in what was an ultra competitive affair and showed up well with the pace utnil weakening badly three from home and being allowed to come home in his own time.
He will certainly find this company far more to his liking, and he looks the type who is shrewd handler won’t waste much time getting back on track to exploit his falling mark.
Another plus is that he has proven winning form in the mud, and in racing lacking any real strength in depth he has been found a nice opportunity to get back into the winners’ enclosure.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Becausewecan (6/1 bet365 – BOG)
