Encapsulated primed to open account at Lingfield

Encapsualted shaped really well on his handicap debut and with cheekpices fitted for the first time is strongly fancied at 6/1 to open his account in the 5.00 at Lingfield today.

The gelding was a Juddmonte cast-off who showed steady progress in three maiden runs for Roger Ingram.

He was clearly far to green to do himself justice when a well beaten last of 15 to the classy remote at Newbury over 1m 2f on his racecourse debut, but then ran a far better race next time up over a mile at Lingfield when 9th of 17 to Simply Elegant.

Although eventually beaten just under 14 lengths that day he showed good early speed to lead and after being headed two out chased the winner until weakening out of contention inside the last.

The son of Zamindar then improved again in a 7f maiden at Salisbury, where he again showed good early speed to lead until the furlong marker before getting hampered and weakening to finish a 9 1/4 length sixth of 14 to Kyllachy Rose.

The form of the race is pretty strong in the context of this contest, and he shaped as if he could be ahead of his mark when a solid fourth of 12 to Fossa on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton 16 days ago.

He showed plenty of pace that day and after leadinmg two from home only got headed inside the last before weakening late on to be beaten 3 1/2 lengths.

To me his concentration seemd to go late on (edged right) and the headgear could well be what he needs to bring about further improvement.

I certainly think that the handicapper has taken a chance in dropping him 2lbs to a mark of 58, and from a good draw in stall 4 this looks a nice opportunity for him to open his account.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win  Encapsualted (6/1 Betfred, BetVictor – BOG)
