Everton play host to Wigan in the quarter-final of the FA Cup today(12.45pm KO, Live on ITV 1) and look bankers at a general price of 4/9 to book their place in the final four.
This is only the second time these North West rivals have been drawn together in the competition, and Everton ran out easy 3-0 winners at Goodison Park when they met in round four of back in 1980.
You have to go back to September 2005 for the last time Wigan beat David Moyes’ men on their own patch, and the Toffees have only lost two of their last 12 FA Cup games on home soil (W8 D2).
Everything suggests that the Everton will get the job done with the minimum of fuss, and I think there is some value to be had in the goalscorer markets in the shape of Leighton Baines.
He has already found the target against Cheltenham and Oldham in the competition this season and has also scored three times in the last eight meetings against Wigan.
That makes him look worth a wager at 12/1 with BetVictor to net the opener, and the 5/1 on offer with Coral about him scoring anytime looks huge and should be snapped up.
Over 2.5 goals also looks a decent punt at 4/6 with Betfred and Stan James.
