Ex-Saint Le Saux confident Southampton can avoid the drop

Ex-Southampton left back Graeme Le Saux that he thinks his former club can survive in the Premier League relgation battle –  and they are a top priced 5/4 to do so with BetVictor.

Speaking ahead of their trip to Aston Villa this weekend,he today told Absolute Radio’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Football: “All credit to Nigel Adkins and the team, and the squad that they have come through a recent period of very , very good form.

“They’ve got a very good chance, I think, of staying in the Premier League. I certainly wouldn’t have said that a couple of months ago, but now I feel that they’ve clawed their way back into a competitive position in terms of their points, but they can’t afford to let up on the momentum because it’s taken them all of this effort just to get back into a position where they can actually achieve Premier League status again.”

Le Saux also claimed it’s a must win game for both sides and praised The Saints fans saying: “I think they’ve been a crucial part of this return to some form that Southampton have managed because they are an incredibly positive bunch, even when things aren’t going well, they get behind the team.

“We had a relegation battle in my last season at Southampton, a battle which we unfortunately lost. But, at no stage in that campaign did the supporters ever turn on us or put us under any extra pressure than we already were under ourselves and they kept behind us, they stayed behind us all the way and they were fantastic. I think they are some of the best fans in the country.”
