Grand Fella is weighted to go close in the 1.15 at Towcester and makes plenty of appeal at 8/1.
Ken Wingrove’s charge has not won since registering hos only victory over hurdles three years ago but shaped with plenty of promise over the larger obstacles last time out when well supported at big odds.
The six-year-old stayed on from well off the pace to finish a never nearer third to Alpha Way at Hereford, and although beaten 31 lengths ran far better than his finishing position suggests.
His rider gave him far too much to do that day and seemed intent on giving him a confidence boosting round and he never got competitive after nearly being tailed off at one point.
However that clear round will certainly have done him good, and connections have found him a weak looking contest where he has every chance of registering an overdue success off bottom weight.
He was once rated as high as 97 over hurdles but gets into this on a mark of just 69 and that gives him a great chance from a handicapping perspective.
The small field today will also suit him, and providing he is ridden more positively he must go close.
