Fireback hot stuff at Epsom

Fireback is potentially well treated on his first start for Daniel Kubler in the 5.25 Epsom and looks worth chancing at 16/1.

The gelding is a useful if somewhat inconsistent handicapper who is just 2lb higher than when landing his last success in a competitive 20 runner affair at Newmarket in 2010.

He showed a good turn of foot that day to beat Bagamayo by 3/4 of a length over today’s trip and going off a mark of 86.

The five-year-old hasn’t gone on as expected after that success, and drew a blank last year when trained by Andrew Balding.

However he did run a cracker in this race when a 1/2 length third to Swiss Spirit off 88 and now races off 2lb lower.

That gives him every chance at the weights if the switch of stables can spark some life back into him, nad the booking of Mikael Barzalona certainly catches the eye.

He also has a decent draw in stall 10 and has run well off a break in the past, and for a horse that has proven form at this unqiue venue looks overpriced at 16/1.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Fireback (16/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
