Firmament holds rock solid claims at Newbury

Firmament has been given a chance by the handicapper and with underfoot conditions to suit rates a solid bet at 4/1 in the 6.40 at Newbury this evening.

Jeremy Noseda’s charge came good at the third time of asking last season when staying on strongly to score over course and distance on soft ground.

He then ran very well on return to action on soft ground in a class 3 contest at Haydock back in May when beaten 1 1/4 lengths by Gerry The Glover off an opening handicap mark of 85.

Although he has not been at his best in two subsequent outings, those runs have come on quicker ground and he has not been knncked about and made late headway on each occasion.

The last of those runs also came in a class 3 contest, and he now drops down into class 4 company having been eased another couple of pounds to 82.

That makes Firmament look potentially well-treared on his Haydock run, especially now back on soft ground which clearely brings out the best in him.

His form on it reads 212, and with Jimmy Fortune in the saddle this looks a good opportunity for him to get back on the winning trail.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Firmament (4/1 Stan James – BOG)
