Frank value at 9s to cash-on on falling handicap mark

You’relikemefrank has slipped to a dangerous mark and looks good value at 9/1 to take advantage and score an overdue success in the 6.00 at Thirsk.

Richard Ford’s gelding has not scored since landing a 5f contest at Lingfield back in January 2011, but that win came off 67 and he now gets into this off just 49 – his lowest rating in almost three years.

He also didn’t run too badly last year when fourth on a couple of occasions off marks of 64 and 68, and although he showed little in his first three runs this year there was much more to like about his fourth of 10 to First Rebellion over 6f at Wolverhampton three starts back.

The seven year-old was held-up in mid division that day after being slowly away but the made good headway two from home to go second approaching the last before being unable to find a change of gear and keeping on at the one pace to be beaten just over 5 lengths.

It was a solid effort and although he has failed to build on it in two subsequent starts he didn’t run as badly as his finishing position suggest when encountering a troubled passage at Musselburgh last time up.

Although all his wins have come at the minimum trip, he has shaped as if he could need further at this stage of his career and it’s interesting that connections are now trying him over 7f for the first time.

This is also contest that lacks any real strength in depth, and with the market dominated by For Shia And Lula and Cross The Boss he makes plenty of each-way appeal from his lowly rating.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way You’relikemefrank (9/1 Betfred, BetVictor – BOG)
