Furious Fury Hits Back at Povetkin

Following reports online and in  the press including yesterday’s Daily Sport regarding Tyson Fury and his manager Mick Hennessy turning down a fight against Russian WBA Heavyweight Champ Alexander Povetkin for this December.

Today Tyson Fury has issued a statement today via Hennessy Sports.

Fury said“Before my promoter Mick Hennessy had finalized my fight against Neven Pajkic he received a call from Sauerland Events who asked would we be interested in making the Povetkin fight for December, they were told that we were very interested in the fight but they would need to come back with a sensible offer very quickly as we were close to finalizing my next fight.

“But to this day my promoter has not received any kind of offer so we had to proceed with my Commonwealth title defence.

“In my opinion the call was only made in the hope we would turn down the fight so they could go public with it, if they were serious, a proper and sensible offer would have been made.  I think they were shocked when Mick said we were up for the fight”

Fury added “I stand by my comments, Povetkin isn’t in my league and I believe his team knows that, I would take him a part, it would be an easier night’s work than I had against Chisora.”

Fury now takes on Neven Pajkic in Manchest on 12th November the fight will be broadcast live on Channel 5 in the UK.

Daily Sport says – Boxings Boxing and there is always a lot of rumours surrounding proposed fights, but shoould the day come for Fury v Povetkin we’ll be there to cover the action.
