Fury to fight behind closed doors ahead of Chisora showdown

Tyson Fury has revealed he will have a behind-closed-doors fight in order to prepare for his July 26 WBO heavyweight title eliminator with Dereck Chisora.

The British rivals will meet at Manchester’s Phones 4u Arena in a bid to become mandatory challenger to heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko.

But while Chisora has been busy since being outpointed by Fury in July 2011, the traveller will have fought only once in 15 months by July.

And unusually, to avoid any possible ring rust, Fury will instead organise his own private fight for mid-April with Cameroon’s Carlos Takam.

“I’m very disappointed,” said Fury, who will relocate to a newly-bought gym in Bolton.

“I was due to fight April 12 at The CopperBox. That fight’s fallen through and now I’m not allowed to fight on that or have an eight-rounder anywhere else, or a six-rounder or four-rounder, or a 10-rounder.

“It’s just another little thing to keep me inactive. Dereck Chisora’s had more active fights than me. I’ve only had two fights in two years nearly.

“I’m ready to fight now, it’s just sickening, really. But do you know what?

“April 14, 15, there’s a fella coming over [Carlos Takam], he fought Mike Perez, got a draw in Canada. I’m going to have a gym fight with him. I might have to give him money, or whatever, I wanna do 12x3s, in little gloves, a proper fight – but no judge, no decision.

“Closed doors. Just his team and my team and we’re going to go at it – whatever happens in the gym, stays in the gym.

“It’s brilliant preparation for Dereck. He’s 6ft2ins, 18st, short, squat – that type of fighter. So I will be having a fight whether they want me to or not.

“He’s going to need every little edge he can get, but it’s not going to help him.

“I’ll be training for Dereck as if he’s Muhammad Ali, Jack Dempsey, Wladimir Klitschko in one. At this stage of my career, an upset now would put me to the back of the queue, a few years back. I’m looking to take him out, and on to the next one.”

The British heavyweight title will also be up for grabs when the two meet on July 26.
