Gabbiano a 12/1 Ascot ace

Gabbiano is back on a handy mark and looks good value at 12/1 to take advantage in the 4.50 at Ascot today now returned to the scene of his last success.

Jeremy Gask’s charge did well last year when winning three sprint handicaps, with his last success coming off a mark of 85 over 5f at this venue.

He went on to finish an excellent fourth of 16 to Dungannon, again at this track, off a mark of 89 where after being held-up off the pace he stayed on to be beaten just 1 1/4 lengths.

The six-year-old now gets into this off 86, just 1lb higher than when last successful, having shaped well on two starts this season.

In the first of those he caught the eye when sixth of 15 to Blessington over course and distance.

After being held-up in the last pair, he made headway to chase the leaders two from home, and then hung left under pressure at the furlong pole as lack of fitness took it’s toll and could find no extra.

Gabbiano then ran better than his finishing position suggests when sixth of 13 at Doncaster last time out, racing keenly and weakening to be beaten 3 1/2 lengths

Those two runs shoudl have put him spot on, and he now returns to a track where he has not both his career successes on the turf, including over this afternoon’s trip of 6f.

Indeed, three of his four career successes have come over 6f and with underfoot conditions ideal everything looks in place for a hueg run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Gabbiano (12/1 Ladbrokes – BOG)
