Gask’s Gabbiano too big at 16s

Gabbiano shaped well on his seasonal reappearance and looks overpriced at 16/1 in the 4.15 at Doncaster today.

Jeremy Gask’s charge did well last year when winning three sprint handicaps, with his last success coming off a mark of 85 at Ascot.

He went on to finish an excellent fourth of 16 to Dungannon at the saem venue off a mark of 89, where after being held-up off the pace he stayed on to be beaten just 1 1/4 lengths.

The sxi-year-old now gets into this off 87, just 2lb higher than when last successful, having caught the eye when sixth of 15 to Blessington at Ascot last month on his first run for 223 days.

After being held-up in the last pair, he made headway to chase the leaders two from home, and then hung left under pressure at the furlong pole as lack of fitness took it’s toll and could find no extra.

That run should have put Gabbiano spot on, and he now meets Secret Winess – who finished 2 3/4 lengths in front of him – on 3lb better terms.

Given that was Gabbiano’s first run for a long time, there should not be much between the pair this time, yet he can be backed at double the odds of that rival.

The drying groud will also be in Gabbiano’s favour, and with Andrea Atzeni in the saddle he looks to have a better chance than his price indicates.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Gabbiano (16/1 Stan James – BOG)
