Go to war with Warrior

Waking Warrior is on career-low mark and looks good value at 7/1 to take advantage and score an overdue success in the 5.55 at Thirsk having shaped well last time out.

Kevin Ryan’s charge has not scored since his juvenile days but having once been rated as high as 90 is now running off just 71.

That gives him a massive chance from a handicapping perspective, and he showed that his turn was near two weeks ago at Doncaster when chasing home Sir Geoffrey on soft going.

He made good late headway that day to be beaten 2 lengths, and gets into this contest off the same mark.

Prior to that effort he had also has shaped fare better than his form figures suggest.

The four-year-old caught the eye when finishing 6th of 17 to Noodles Blue Boy at Thirsk back in May and was then well supported next time up at Ascot over 6f where he was too keen early doors and weakened out of contention a furlong from home.

The son of Sleeping Indian was then heavily backed last at Chester when finishing 6th of 10 to Green park in a race where nothing went to plan.

He found himself short of room when up with the pace after the first furlong and then got denied a clear run two from home which saw him drop to the rear.

All chance he had of winning had gone at that point and he was wisely not knocked about and allowed to come home in his own time.

The fact that he was punted suggests that connections believe he is on a mark which he can now exploit, and this looks a golden opportunity for him to gte into the winners’ enclosure.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Waking Warrior (7/1 Hills, Paddy Power – BOG)
