Justcallmehandsome has plummeted in the weights and looks worth chancing at 18/1 to bounce back to form in the 4.35 at Wolverhampton today.
The gelding is a 10 times course and distance winner and the last of those victories came back in December 2011 off a mark of 60.
He went on to finish a fine second to Postscript off 65 on his first start of 2012, after which his form tailed off badly.
However he now gets into this off a rating of just 48, and although he finished last of 8 when last seen in action here 11 days ago he did race with far more zest than he has been.
The 11-year-old often misses the kick at the start, but that was not the case and he showed plenty of early pace to chase the leaders out wide before coming under pressure three from home and weakening approaching the final furlong.
It was an effort which suggested he still had another race or two in him, and with the handicapper having dropped him another couple of pounds there is little doubt that he is dangerously well-treated at present.
He does need to step up on what he has shown, but that isn’t out of the question in a race that lacks any real strength in depth.
Backing him obviously comes with risks attached, but he has often popped up at a big price in the past and taken advantage of a falling mark, and at the odds on offer it looks a risk worth taking.
