Saturday night saw Mickey Helliet’s Hellraiser Boxing team up yet again with Mo Prior’s Warriors Boxing Promotions for another stacked card of all action boxing at York Hall with 17 fights on the card and headlined by rising light-middle star Asinia Byfield taking on London based German Arthur Hermann for the Southern Area strap.
Byfield v Hermann was a pretty action packed affair with house fighter Byfield starting a little slow and not throwing enough in the earlier rounds but Hermann kept on coming forward throughout and Byfield had a cracking 6th and 9th rounds where he was well on top and landing well. The fight went the 10 round distance with Hermann just nicking it 97-96 on tjhe refs scorecard to take the Sourthern Area title.
Fight of the night for keeping you on the edge of your seat has to be the 4 round bantamweight contest between Ramesh Ahmadi v Georgi Georgiev [The guy who knocked out Sammy Canwell on his last UK visit.] Georgiev had Ahmadi down twice in the 1st and was lucky not to get stopped. This then turned into a real toe to toe war with Ahmadi dropping the Bulgarian twice in the 3rd. He also hit Georgiev on the floor when he went down for the 1st time. More action in the 4th with Georgiev getting a well deserved draw from the ref.
Another schedueled 10 rounder for the card was for the British Challenge middleweight title between Alan Higgins v Simone Lucas with Lucus taking plenty of big shots from Higgin the ref had seen enough and stopped it at 2.22 of the 1st.
Popular Hertforshire middleweight Elliott Matthews got beat Chritian Gomez on points in the tough 6 rounder which saw Gomez not give an inch and proved a tough opponent for Matthews who took it 59-57 on the refs card.
London based Turkish super-middle Onder Ozgul stopped oppo Gordon Glisic in the 1st to take his pro tally to 9-0 with 4 KO’s. Ozgul is definitely one to watch.
Davis Pagan made a statement on his debut cheered on my the many supporters he bought to York Hall. Pagan had Terry George down in the 4th to take the bout on points 40-35.
Another pro debut on the bill saw Geoff Dixon beat Curtis Gargano over 4 rounds at light-heavy 40-36 much to the delight of his supporters.
Limehouse Marina Elite fighter Philip Bowes beat Ivo Gogosevic over 6 rounds at super-lightweight with a stylish performance taking the bout 60-53 on the refs card.
Middleweight Myles Cash stopped Aaron Robinson in 1 round after dropping him twice and with Robinson making the count at the end of the round to retire on his stool before the bell went for the 2nd. Good win by Cash who is now 6-0 as a pro.
Another middleweight fight saw Ian Bailey take Elemir Raphael out in 3 rounds dropping him on the way to his TKO victory.
Popular London based Albanian Festim Lama beat Sonny Whiting over 4 rounds on points 40-36 much to the delight of the many Albanian fans in the venue.
Other results – Sammy Holloway beat Chris Jenkinson on points 39-38 in their middleweight 4 rounder, Hollywood Josh beat Willie Warburton 40-36 in their super-welter 4 rounder, Richard Horton beat Richard Harrison over 4 rounds at light-heavy 40-37 in what was a real slugfest, Graham Tirrell won a close fought decision over journeyman Kevin McCauley 58-57 over 6 rounds, Tariq Rashid beat Justin Johnson 40-37 over 4 rounds of their super-middle contest and Darryl Church drew with Mitch Mitchell in their very evenly matched 4 rounder at light-heavy.
All in all another packed card from Messers Helliet and Prior with the next show back at York Hall on June 4th.
