Higgs has a big shout at Wetherby

Higgs looks nicely treated on the pick of his form and worth a punt at 5/1 in the 2.55 at Wetherby today.

This six-year-old landed back-to-back contests at Newton Abbot last season when in the care of Sarah-Jayne Davies and went on to finish a solid second on handicap debut at Doncaster off a mark of 127.

He then failed to build on that in his next four outings, but there was lots to like about his returnto action at Exeter back in October on his first start for Dr Richard Newland when a keeping on 1 1/2 length third to Back On The Lash.

The fifth and sixth home, Working Class and Chico Vallis, both went on to scvore next time up – so that gives the form a solid look.

Higgs then failed to live up to expectations seven days later when sent off odds-on and finishing a well-beaten fifth of nie to Attention Seeker at Carlisle, but that race may well have come too soon.

He has since had a wind-op, now gets fitted with the cheekpieces for the first time, and a mark of 119 looks exploitable.

With the stable in fine form, and Charlie Hammond in the saddle taking 3lb off with his claim, he looks well worth another chance to build on the promise of his debut run for the good doctor.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Higgs (5/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
