Hoofalong has dropped to a career-low mark and makes plenty of appeal at 7/1 in the 5.10 at Doncaster today.

Mick Easterby’s gelding was in good form in 2013 when landing back to back handicaps at this venue and Windsor.

The first of those came over 7f off a mark of 72, and the second off 77.

Hooflaong went on to finish a fine second of 13 in a class 2 contest over 5f at York off 84, and is now able to race off just 71 after drawing a blank last year.

That gives the five-year-old outstanding claims at the weights and he hinted that his time was near on his penultimate start York when a 3 1/4 length fifth of 18 to Harwoods Volante.

Hooflalong shoed plenty of pace to chase the leaders before taking up the running at halfway and weakening late on after being headed at the furlong marker.

He was then backed off the baords last time out at Wetherby only to unseat Nathan Evans asshortly after the stalls opened, and the market confidence suggests his shrewd connections have got him primed to go in again.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way  Hoofalong (7/1 Ladbrokes, Stan James – BOG)
