House hot stuff at Towcester

Bracken House is a very interesting contender on his debut for the shrewd John Flint yard in the 4.20 at Towcester and looks worth an interest at 10/1.

The gelding showed a fair level of form when trained in Ireland, most notably when fourth of 16 to Harangue at Sligo off a mark off 88.

The form of that contest if pretty strong in the context of this race, and the fact that he was well supported on his next two starts suggests that his old connections believed he was on a decent mark.

Indeed he was again well-backed in a selling handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot when last seen in action, but could only finish 7th of 13 to Going Nowhere Fast.

However a stumble at the sixth and a mistake at the third last cost him dearly that day, and I am convinced he is better than his final finishing position suggest.

That run came off a mark of 91, and with the assessor having immediately dropped him 3lb to a mark of 88 he is now back on a decent racing weight – especially with Thomas Flint taking another 7lb off his back.

His new stable is also one which has done well with similar recruits in the past, and they have pulled off some notable gambles with horses of similar profiles.

It would be no surprise to see the eek out some improvement in him, and at the odds on offer he looks good each-way value in what doesn’t look a strong contest.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Bracken House (10/1 bet365, Paddy Power – BOG)
