In-form Greek Islands weighted to go in again

Greek Islands is in the form of his life at present and looks good value at 7/2 to land the finale at Lingfield today (5.15).

Ed de Giles’ charge had been a disappoiting and frustrating sort to follow before bolting up in a 7f handicap at Kempton two starts back.

Held up that day, he made smooth headway on the bridle to lead just inside the last and shot clear to win easing down by 2 3/4 lengths from Media Jury.

The five-year-old then backed that up with a really solid effort last time out over the same course and distance when going down by just a neck to Atheltic under a 6lb penalty.

He stayed on well that day to chase the thriving winner all the way to the line, and the pair pulled 2 1/2 lengths clear of the third.

It was an effort which suggested there were more races to be won with him, and although now 3lb higher in the weights he is still well-treated off a mark of 54 on his back form.

The son of Oasis Dream was runner-up three times when trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni back in 2010, including off a mark of 75, and was rated as high as 81 at one point.

That suggests he is potentially well ahead of the asessor now that he has regained his form, and with Liam Keniry – who gets on well with him – in the saddle again he looks sure to take all the beating.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Greek Islands (7/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
