Indepub is back down below his last winning mark and makes plenty of appeal at 16/1 in the 4.25 at Carlisle today.
The gelding was last successful over course and distance in May 2014 when trained by Martin Todhunter and getting the better of Welsh Bard by a length off a mark of 88.
He got put up to 95 for that success and has largely struggled as a result since.
However, the six-year-old’s mark has fallen as a result and he now gets into this off just 84 – 4lb lower than when last successful – having not run badly in two of his last four starts.
On the first of those over CD he finished a solid third to Tiger O’Toole, rallying well buit making a mistake at the last before being beaten 5 1/2 lengths off a mark of 87.
Indepub also ran better than the bare result suggests when fourth over 2m 6f at Cartmel last time out when his stamina was strectched, and the drop back down to 2m 4f is sure to suit.
He also has the services of Callum Bewley in the saddle whose claim takes another 5lb of his back, and that mnakes Indpeub look weighted to run a huge race on the pick of his form.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Indepub (16/1 BetVictor, Paddy Power, Wiulliam Hill – BOG)
