EXCLUSIVE: Fight legend Brendan Ingle says Floyd Mayweather jr is the best he’s ever seen.
Over the last half-century, Ingle’s gym in Sheffield has produced four world champions – including Prince Naseem Hamed – and many more British, Commonwealth and European titlists.
Ingle rates Hamed the best he’s trained – but says he’s never seen anyone like Mayweather jr before.
Mayweather jr has won world titles in five different weight divisions – and calls himself ‘The Best Ever.’
Ingle says he agrees in the countdown to Mayweather jr’s rematch with Argentine slugger Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Ingle said: “I’ve seen them all – Muhammad Ali and everyone – and the best I have ever seen is Floyd Mayweather jnr.
“What he does is unbelievable. I’ve never seen anyone as good as him. I thought Prince Naseem would do what he’s done, but he underachieved.”
If Mayweather jr wins the last three fights on his Showtime contract, he will equal Rocky Marciano’s perfect 49-0 record.
Mayweather has been pushed close a few times in his ring career.
Stats showed Jose Luis Castillo outpunched him in their first fight in 2002 and there were those who thought Oscar De La Hoya did enough to outpoint him in their super fight.
In May, Maidana hit Mayweather jr more times – 221 punches landed – than any of his other opponents and that’s helped secure another shot at boxing’s pound-for-pound king.
