Irish raider Captain Hox looks nicely treated on the pick of his form and worth a punt at 6/1 in the 2.50 at Newcastle today.
Patrick Griffin’s charge notched his sole success over fences when coming home alone at Ayr back in February when his sole rival departed early doors.
He had previously shaped nicely at Haydock when a staying on 13 1/4 length third of five to Pain Au Chocalat in a class 2 novice chase off an official rating of 125, where he finished 12 lengths behind the runner-up Aso who has gone on to win twice since and finished a fine fourth in the valuable BetVictor Gold Cup at Cheltenham last month off a rating of 144.
That form reads well in the contest of this class 4 contest given that Captain Hox met Aso on level weights and he is able to race in it off what looks a very workable mark of 120.
He also comes into the race on the back of a pipe-opener over hurdles at Navan last month which should have blown away the cobwebs and put him spot on for this and tha booking of Paddy Brennan to do the steering looks a positive one.
