Itlaaq is on a long losing run but ha sbecome well-handicapped as a result and looks worth a punt at 8s in the 5.45 at Ayr today.
Mick Easterby’s 12-year-old was last successful in a class 4 contest at Thirsk back in July 2016 where he scored by 1 3/4 lengths off a mark of 77.
He got put up to 82 for that success but is now able to race off just 63.
That is a career-low and gives the veteran major claims at the weights on the pick of his form.
The veteran showed that he still retained the ability to win a race of this nature when runner-up at Pontefract last May off 75 and was also far from disgraced when third of 19 at Doncaster off 69 back in October.
He also comes itno the race om the vack of two decent efforts, finishhing third at Wolverhampton and fifth of 10 to the well-treated Italian Riveira at Catterick.
Itlaaq’s last two wins have also come under a female rider and Joanna Mason now takes over from Harrison Shaw who has partnered him in his last foru starts.
