Katkeau has a progressive profile over fences and makes plenty of appeal at 9/1 in the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter today (3.30).
David Pipe’s charge has won three of his five starts over the larger obstacles, and showed a tremendous attitude in the last of those when scoring over 3m at this venue in April.
The nine-year-old overcame a blunder at the third last, and rallied stronglly having been a length down at the last to get up close home and beat Gas Line Boy by 1/2 a lengh.
He had several of today’s rivals in behind, and the manner of the victory suggested this afternoon’s extra two furlongs should be ideal.
Although up 7lb for that success, Katkeau looks the type who should have more to offer over fences and Pipe does well with his runners at the track and has a good record in big handicap chases at it.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Katkeau (9/1 BetVictor, Stan James, William Hill – BOG)
