King George V Stakes (5.35 Royal Ascot, Thurs) Let’s make it an Excellent Result

Excellent Result looks decent value at 14/1 to land this for the boys in blue.

Saeed Bin Suroor’s charge looked a colt with a big future when making a highly promising debut as a juvenile in a race won Telescope at Newbury.

Held-up in touch, he made good headway down the centre three form home and after going second inside the last weakened close home to be beaten 2 3/4 lengths into third.

The runner-up, Elkaayed, who finished 1/2 a length in front of him has gone on to score twice and is now rated 100 and he finished in front of Soviet Rock and Space Ship who re-oppose today.

The Godolphin owned son of Shamardal then failed to build on that effort next time up at Goodwood when a well beaten fourth of 10 to Nicholas Canyon but the soft ground was all against him that day.

He then looked badly in need of the run on his seasonal reappearance at Newbury before putting up an impressive performance last time out at Sandown when slamming Number One London by 7 lengths.

There was plenty to like about the way he went about his business that day, travelling strongly behind the leader until taking up the running two from home and running on strongly to the line.

It was a performance which suggested he needed keeping on the right side, and his opening handicap mark of 94 looks a fair one as I think he has the potential to make up into a pattern horse.

Other pluses are that he has a good draw in stall 7 and the services of Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle, and everything looks in place for a big run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Excellent Result (14/1 Hills – BOG)
