Lilac Lace is back down to her last winning mark and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 20/1 in the 4.25 at York today.
Tim Easterby’s filly is a tough sort who showed progressive form last year whne bagging four handicaps.
The last of those wins came in a class 3 contest on testing ground at Newbury where she made all and ran on strongly to beat Jubilante by 2 1/2 lengths off a mark of 81.
The daughter of Captain Marvelous got put up 5lb for that win to 86, and didn’t run too badly off it on her seasonal reappearance at Thirsk when 9th of 15 to Farlow.
Lilac Lace was then well beaten next time up over a mile at Ripon, but shaped as if she could be coming to hand last time out at Thirsk over a mile when sixth of 7 to Pelerin off a mark of 83.
She ran better than the bare result suggests, racing keenly in the lead until being headed and weakening a furlong from home.
The handicapper has since dropped her 2lb to a mark of 81 – the same as when last successful – and the drop back down to 7f looks sure to suit.
Lilac Lace has won three of her seven starts over it, and should now be spot on to do herself justice after three quick runs.
She also has winning form on all types of going and a decent looking draw to exploit in stall 6, and looks capable of running a huge race at a tasty price.
