Lingfield Lovelies

12/1 L’Hirondelle too well treated to ignore

L’Hirondelle is absolutely thrown-in on his best form in the 4.40 Lingfield and looks terrific each-way value at 12/1.

Michael Attwater’s gelding is much better on the Polytrack surface than on the turf, and although he has not been at his best this season his handicapped mark has plummeted as a result.

He is now down to a mark of just 72 and is 7lb lower than when last scoring at Kempton last July.

Since that victory he has also twice been placed at Kempton off marks of 84, and to me he showed enough last time out to suggest he could be ready to take advantage of his lenient mark.

That run came over 1m 1f at Wolverhampton, where after being held up he was switched to deliver a challenge a furlong from home before weakening out of contention to finish just over a four length 6th of 11 to Count Bertoni.

The trip seemed to stretch his stamina, and the drop back to a mile looks sure to suit.

Everything looks in place for a huge run, and at double figure odds he has to be of serious each-way interest.

Focal Maith appeals at 10’s

Focail Maith isn’t the easiest horse to win with but he has slipped to a nice mark and makes plenty of appeal at 10/1 in the 5.45 at Lingfield.

John Ryan’s gelding has just one victory to his name from 17 starts, and although that win came in heavy ground on the turf he also has form on the polytrack that makes him of interest now returned to the artificial surface.

Although his form this season has been a bit hit and miss, he has run some really solid races on occasions and his second to Proud Chieftan at Newmarket back in July off a mark of 70 arguably makes him the one to beat in this line-up.

He is now able to race off a mark of 68, and didn’t shape too badly last time out over a mile at Sandown when 7th of 12 to Sure Route.

The step back up in trip to 1m 2f will suit him far better, and given that he has been placed off today’s mark and off 71 on the artificial surface he is certainly weighted to take all the beating

I had him priced up at around the 6/1 mark on my tissue, so at the 10/1 on offer he looks terrific value.
