The UK’s biggest Muay Thai and kickboxing brand, The Main Event, is set to
hit The Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on 23rd May 2015.
With a history of showcasing the world’s best fighters in front of the biggest
crowds, coupled with a SKY-TV production setup featuring lasers, dancers,
pyrotechnics and more, The Main Event is the stand-out show on the combat
sports calendar in the UK.
On May 23rd 2015 the promotion comes to Birmingham, home of numerous
fighting legends, in an action packed extravaganza set to change the future of the
sport in the UK.
Confirmed bouts to date include no less than 4 current World Title holders on a
fight card littered with some of the best fighters in the sport. With several
headlining bouts still to be released, organisers have given a taste of what is to
come with the first three contests:
Double World lightweight champion Panicos Yusuf (34-3), currently
enjoying a 21-fight winning streak, takes on Irishman Stephen Meleady
(37-16), who has shared the ring with the planet’s biggest names, in a
clash that has grabbed the attention of fans across the country.
A fight that has wowed those in the fighting community sees former
amateur champion and current ISKA Oriental rules World champion Chad
‘2Slick’ Sugden (12-3) take on 2x World title holder Michael Wakeling
(29-1-1), from the famous Scorpions gym in London, under kickboxing
rules.
A bout that has been in the making for over a year sees one of the UKs
brightest prospects, former junior World champion Daniel Mcgowan (19-
2-1, from Northampton, take on his toughest ever test in the form of
Italian veteran Gery Bavetta (47-14-1), the WBC World ranked number
18, in a contest that is being tipped as a Fight Of The Night contender.
Aged just 18, Mcgowan is heading for the very top and already holds the
UK number 1 Bantamweight position. Bavetta, however, is looking for
another English scalp on his impressive CV of over 60 fights, having
already beaten the former UK #1 Paolo Da Silva in 2013.
With this calibre of fighters gracing The Main Event stage, couple with
production values seen nowhere else on these shores, this event is unrivalled in
the UK and is set to attract a record crowd.
