The unexposed Main Line has been crying out for a step up in trip and at 11/2 rates the best bet on tonight’s card at Newmarket now that he gets it in the 8.40.
David Lanigan’s colt ran out an impressive winner on his debut at Wolverhampton and has shaped far better than his finishing positions suggest in two subsequent runs.
In the first he blew his chance at the start in a 1m handicap at Kempton when slowly away, but stayed on really nicely without being knocked about to finish a never nearer 2 1/4 length fourth of 11 to Curzon Line.
The son of Rail Link then returned to the same venue to renew rivalry with the winner in another mile contest, but again came off second best.
This time he got beaten 3 lengths into sixth behind the Godolphin owned runner, but nothing went right for him in a slowly run race.
After being held up at the back he had to be switched left to try and come with a run and was making ground when hampered at the furlong marker.
In the end he was never quite able to get on terms, but his rider accepted the situation and did not unduly punish him.
He now makes his turf debut on a mark of 78 over a more suitable trip of 1m 2f , and I am convinced that he is better than that rating.
To me he looks the type who has plenty more to offer, and from the foot of the weights he looks sure to take all the beating for a handler who boasts a near 22% strike rate at the track.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Main Line (11/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
