Man United v Liverpool: Rooney value at 9/5 to get on scoresheet

All eyes will be on Old Trafford tonight (7.45pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 2) as Man United bid to bounce back against arch rivals Liverpool in their Capital One Cup clash.

The Red Devils are a top priced 5/4 to come out on top following their humilating 4-0 drubbing by City in the Manchester derby at the weekend.

They were, quite simply, played off the park that day and there was heavy criticism for manager David Moyes afterwards with many claiming that he got his tactics all wrong and was failing to fill his players with the desire which saw them runaway winners in the title race last season.

Having now failed to win in the league against Chelsea, City and today’s opponents the pressure is now on the Scot to start delivering the goods against the top sides.

This will be the acid test to see if he can turn things around after a poor start to the season, and another defeat will leave already disgruntled fans baying for his blood.

Further interest is added by the return to action for Liverpool of Louis Suarez following his ban for biting an opponent.

The Uruguayan has been playing for his country and in a number of friendlies set up for him behind closed doors to get him fit, and it will be fascinating how he performs in this.

Under normal circumstances I would be piling into United to win this at the 5/4 on offer given that they are usually odds-on on their own patch.

However circumstances are far from normal at the club since Moyes took over, and the only bet that appeals to me in this is for Wayne Rooney to score anytime at a standout 9/5 with Paddy Power.

He was the one player who stood out against City and in his present mood will be hard to keep off the scoresheet.
