Masamah looks magic at 12s

Masamah bounced back to form last time out and looks decent value at 12/1 to enhance his excellent record in the King George Stakes at Goodwood today (3.40).

The gelding is a game and tough front runner who has finished first and third in the last two runnings of this contest and is clearly ideally suited by this flying 5f.

In last year’s contest he was beaten just 1 3/4 into third behind the Aussie mare Ortensia in what looks a stronger renewal than today’s contest, and he now meets the runner-up Spirit Quartz on 4lb better terms for a 1/2 a length beating.

He also comes into the contest in better form than that rival, and looked right back to his best when winning a competitive handicap at Ascot last time out where he made all and stuck on gamely to beat Racy by 1/2 a length.

That was his first win since joining Marco Botti (previosuly trained by Kevin Ryan) and although this demands more he is the type who thrives on his racing and now that he has got his head back in front is likely to improve again.

The seven-year-old will certainly give this his best shot, and the pick of his form give him major claims in this.

At the odds on offer he rates a solid each-way play.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Masamah (12/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
