McPhilbin KO’s Williams to win Britsih Title

Last night at York Hall was an all action affair with 2 major upsets firstly Michael Maguire who I had well in front on my score card was dropped by a body shot in the last round by Nahaj Ali who then dropped him again at 2.59 of the same round only for ref Jeff Hines to end the count at the bell and then award the fight to Ali on points 57-56. Unlucky for Ali not to get the KO victory he deserved.

Then the top of bill saw Stretham’s Leon Williams make is first defence of his British Cruiserweight title against late sub Bulwell’s Shane McPhilbin. Williams dropped McPhilbin in the first and from then on dominated the a fight in which both fighters had a point deducted, only to be dropped twice in the 12th round and get stopped 1.57 of that round. McPhilbin pulled it out of the bag when it counted and claimed the title.
