Midnight Macarena makes plenty of appeal

Midnight Macarena is bred to be a chaser and looks worth chancing at 7/1 on her handicap debut over the larger obstacles in the 4.45 at Leicester.

Lucy wadham’s mare won a bumper on only her second start and has since run some creditable races over hurdles.

She was given an initial rating of 109 on the back of a couple of promising efforts when runner-up to Risaala and a decent fifth to Alverstone in a big field maiden at Warwick but failed to progress and was on the sidelines for 224 days until reappearing in December.

She failed to fire on her comeback and was then brought down in a race at Ludlow won by What An Oscar.

However she showed far more sparkle last time up at Fakenham when finishing fifth of 9 to Grassfinch where she kept on well to be beaten 6 1/2 lengths having raced keen in the early stages.

That run suggested she was nearing her peak, and it’s interesting that connections are pitching her straight into handicap company on her first try over fences.

She could well have got in lightly off a mark of 96, and given that she is still relatively lightly raced is open to a bit of improvement compared to her exposed rivals.

Connections would have struggled to find a weaker race than this for her to get off the mark over fences, and at the odds on offer she makes plenty of appeal.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Midnight Macarena (7/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
