Minstrel set to hold Court at Ascot

Court Minstrel 2.45 Ascot The progressive Court Minstrel is the class act in the 2.45 at Ascot today and is strongly fancied at 6/1 to land the spoils.

Evan Williams charge had some useful bumper form to his name and created a huge impression when scoring on his hurdling debut at Cheltenham.

Held-up that day, he travelled strongly throughout and after making smooth headway and not getting a clear run two out led at the last before quickening clear to impressively beat The Romford Pele by 3 3/4 lengths.

He then appeared to be given too much to do when finishing third to Dodging Bullets in a grade 2 contest at the same venue before finding very testing conditions all against him when fourth to Melodic Rendezvous at Sandown.

The six-year-old then made a mockery of his opening handicap mark of 131 at Plumpton in the Sussex Champion Hurdle where he showed a useful turn of foot to beat Specialagent Alfie with far more in hand than the winning margin of 2 1/2 lengths suggests.

The handicapper has hit him with a 10lb rise for that success, but he readily shrugged it aside when imnpressively winning the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr where he travelled strongly throughout before being produced to lead on the run-in and quickening clear to beat Sametagal by 2 1/4 lengths.

He as value for much more than the winning margin that day, and an 8lb rise to 149 does not look harsh given his rate of progression.

The six-year-old has a huge engine and a great turn of foot, and looks the type who will win plenty more races this season.

This looks a good starting point, and with his yard in good form and Paul Moloney in the saddle he can take this before going on to better things.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Court Minstrel (6/1 Betfred – BOG)
