Mockey’s Midweek Footy Fix

So it’s the countdown to Christmas with a serious amount of games heading our way in the run up to the big day,  if this weekend was anything to go by we are in for a very tasty month, 8 games between now and the New Year and this weekend was the start of it all.

It’s a shame the players are going to be too busy to even make a dent in their bank balances shopping this year but I’m sure their wives will have a good go at it.

I was at the Cardiff-Arsenal game on Saturday afternoon, Seemed to be the best fixture to watch on paper for me. Cardiff at home are a decent force and Arsenal, with they form they are in at the moment made for a great set up. It’s the first time I’ve seen Arsenal this year, god they are impressive. I can see why a team like Arsenal are top of the league, a few years ago they played some brilliant passing football in fact they had a decent reputation for it but since then only teams like Swansea seem to be talked about for their passing abilities, Arsenal now have that flare again since the introduction of Ozil (which surprised the shit out of me) they have this new confidence. Their set up is genius, 6 or 7 player have a free role which makes them impossible to man mark however In order for this to work other players need to take responsibility for the others if they move positions, this is the style  they have really mastered this year and is definitely the key to their success this season. They did touch base on it from an attacking angle on match of the day Saturday night but not from a defensive one, So if someone like Gibbs moves forward then you see Ozil, Wilshire or Ramsey move back to defend at one point even Giroud was in defence while Sagna was upfront, when you have the discipline Arsenal’s team showed then you are untouchable and they were.

Cardiff played just as well as they did against United the difference was they didn’t deserve a result they were just out classed.

I took someone with me who had never been to a football match, Wales is a very rugby orientated country so you do get these situations, so when I asked what they thought the answer that game across was “its very hostile and fast paced” Now I’m used to it having played myself and the hostility is also a factor I’m aware off but why? When you go to a rugby match you can drink in the stands and sit amongst the away supporters without incident, the game itself is even more violent so why is football like it is? In my opinion I think its these restrictions that create hostility, let them drink let them mix and see what happens I mean look at the German motorways! In contrast with the above subject there was a great moment when Ramsey scored for Arsenal, the home fans applauded his goal and his name when it was read from the team sheet, Ramsey is a Cardiff boy and did learn his trade there, it showed allot of respect from both parties. I guess there is still some honest respect in the game, Unlike Robin Van Persie a few weeks ago.

Arsenal looked brilliant they are one striker signing in January away from the title.

The mighty Hammers are back in form…… Well we picked up a decent result against a struggling team but these are the games you have to get results in to survive, when you stop getting results you should be then Arsenal looked brilliant they are one striker signing in January away from the title.

The mighty Hammers are back in form…… Well we picked up a decent result against a struggling team but these are the games you have to get results in to survive, When you stop getting points in games you really should be it starts to become a matter of survival, unfortunately this has shown with Fulham and Martin Jol, Its never nice to see someone lose their job in any trade but they have been muck fair play.

Newcastle have pulled of a sneaky little run, since they got a good result at Cardiff earlier they have been quite consistent, maybe its Kinny’s input? Doubt it! That place is another circus. Maybe an intertoto slot is on the cards for the maggies.

Now for the biggest circus of all Spurs – Manchester united. What they hell is going on with these two? Spurs are tipped for great things then they decide they can score for love nor money and United who are barkers eggs all season decide to play the nuts! They lost me £1800 last week with that win in Germany! Hate Man utd. Some worldy’s in this game though, definitely worth a look.

Tonight’s matches

Arsenals, Cardiff, Swansea are all certs.
