Montaser is a handicapper going places and is strongly fancied at 3/1 to land the hat-trick in the 4.20 at Yarmouth today.

David Simcock’s lightly raced gelding shaped well in his first two starts this season before landing a 1m 4f contest at Haydock by a neck from Rainbow Gold.

He then defied an 8lb rise with consummate ease when staying on strongly to slam Western prize by just under 4 lengths when upped to 2m at Ascot last time out, and despite being hiked up another 8lb to a mark of 95 he looks a class act who needs firmly keeping on the right side.

The son of Rail Link has the potential to make up into a Group horse, and is currently 12/1 second favourite for the Cesarewitch at Newmarket on October 13.

He will not be inconvenienced by the drop back to 1m 6f today, unlike the market leader Repeater who is potentially thrown-in back in a handicap after his fourth to Times Up in the Doncaster Cup.

However I think that Sir Mark Prescott’s charge was flattered to finish so close in a slowly run race that day, and his form before that is nothing out of the ordinary and he also struggles to get his head in front.

He is one of those that often flatters to deceive and is regarded as unlucky, and I am very keen to take him on.

The selection certainly doesn’t have any issues and is on a severe upward curve.

He gets on well with Franny Norton, who is riding better than ever, and with conditions to suit is expected to take this en-route to his main autumn target at headquarters.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Montaser (3/1 Boylesports, Ladbrokes – BOG)
