Silvery Moon shaped with promise on his seasonal reappearance and makes plenty of appeal at 12/1 in the opener at Ripon (2.20).
Tim Easterby’s strapping son of Verglas looked baldy in need of the outing when finishing 15th of 22 to Karaka jack at Doncaster, but ran far better than his finishig position suggests.
The five-year-old travelled well at the rear of the field and after making some progress two from home was allowed to come home in his own time after weakening badly a furlong from home.
He is sure to strip fitter this afternoon, and there is every possibility that he has more to offer this season as he improved throughout last year’s camapign.
After powering clear to win a mile handicap at Redcar by five lengths off a mark of 63 he went on to score at Ayr off 77 and given his physique it’s likely that his current mark of 82 is not beyond him.
Another plus is that he handles testing going, and he is the type that his shrewd handler does very well with and places to maximum effect.
It will be interesting to see if the money comes for him this afternoon, as any market support would be significant.
However at 12/1 he is overpriced in my book as I had him no bigger than 8s, and at those odds he simplay has to be backed.
