Melrose Abbey is unbeaten in two runs on soft ground and with conditions to suit makes plenty of appeal at 10/1 in the 3.00 at Doncaster today.
Ralph Beckett’s filly got off the mark when making a winning reappearance in the mud at Chepstow back in May when digging deep to beat Nabatean by a neck.
The pair pulled clear of the third, and the runner-up has developed into a useful sort who has won twice since and finished a good fifth in a hot handicap at Newmarket.
Melrose Abbey thne ran well to get beat just a neck on good-to-soft ground at Salisbury before taking her form to a new level with a runaway 3 1/2 length success in a handicap at Newmarket on soft ground.
The three-year-old was sent off just 8/1 for the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes here on the back oif that success, but found the drying ground against her and could finish just 9th of 13 to Silk Sari.
Today’s ground is likely to see her in a far better light, and she also comes into the contest a fesh horse and remains open to further improvement after just five career starts.
With Richard Hughes in the saddle everything looks in place for a huge run.
