Mud-loving Safran can deliver for Daly

Safran De Cotte has conditions in his favour in the Tommy Whittle Chase at Haydock today (2.05) and looks decent value at 7/1.

Henry Daly’s charge, who has won a bumper and handicap hurdle at the track, won three times over fences last season and has some strong form to his name.

In the first of those successes he stayed on strongly to beat Godsmejudge by 3 lengths in a beginners’ chase on soft ground at Stratford, and the runner-up went on to win the Scottish National and is now rated 148.

That is strong form and makes the selection look on a handy mark in this off 129.

He should also now be spot on for this 3m contest having shaped as if needing the run when finishing third of 7 to Titchec at Carlisle on his seasonal reappearance after 256 days on the sidelines, and the return to a left handed track is also in his favour.

The testing underfoot conditions are also ideal, and he looks the type that will relsih this slog and be staying on dourly at the business end of affairs when others have cried enough.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Safran De Cotte (7/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
